Aaron Carroll: I was always pretty good at school, not because I'm smart, but because I understood that to be good at school you had to give the authority figure what you wanted. He says he hated law school and decided early on that there was no way in God's Green Earth he would ever be a lawyer. Carroll went into politics then fell into speech writing for a few years before discovering his true calling as a writer. "It took me like three decades on this planet to figure out that that is what I did"
