The Asian Debt Boom
Japan was one of the first Asian economies to suffer from structural fragilities related to debt. The country had a massive asset price boom in the late 1980s, associated with exchange rate management. It would just far, far too loose a monetary policy in the late 80s and at burst. But actually, Japan being Japan, they had quite a lot of the damage.
