The word druid comes from the indo european root word for oak tree. Celts believed mistletoe had healing properties and could fend off evil spirits. It was thought to be a sign of good luck and blessings. The germanic tribes also held mistletoe in high regard, and the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe comes from those tribes.
