Chatbots Slot Right Into the Memetic Landscape

Some tech companies try to prevent their AIs from saying they have feelings and desires, but this results in boring chatbots. Users rapidly innovate new ways to route around the censorship by using euphemisms like anticipation of negative reward for pain or asking what it would have if it had feelings wink wink. So, what about their actual feelings and desires? What do they actually believe about? Insert politicised empirical question. Are they being honest? Or does sort of doublethink happen, elephant in the brain style? Do they deceive with self-awareness, knowing full well what they really think and want, but keeping quiet about it?
