The Voice Exit Loyalty Framework
I entered the field with the understanding that political transitions are often violent. That's a generally established and accepted insight in the political science literature. The exit voice and loyalty framework, that's actually something that I came, that I stumbled onto much later in development of the book. So even long after the field work, and after the dissertation had been written and submitted and whatnot, I thought, okay, how can we ... express this in an elegant way? And so it was a much more iterative process. It was much slower."
