We are sleeping 90 minutes less on average by survey compared to a great-grandparent. Deep sleep is basically a conversation of more adenosine in the brain. We don't have to get up nearly as much as we needed to just a handful of decades ago. Caffeine blocks the ability for adenosine to bind and help give us that deeper sleep.
