Langston Hughes was born into a distinguished family, part of the african american elite at the time. His great grandmothers on his father's side were both enslaved africans and his great grandfathers on that side were slave owners. Langston wrote some poems, un published ones, that suggest that he might have been gay or attracted to men. It is not clear where exactly it left him. Was he gay in not permitting himself to feelit out of guilt or shame, or fear, which was real?
