The Origins of Inspiration in the Early Church
The word Theopnoustos was used not only in reference to the Scriptures Old Testament or New Testament, but also with individuals who spoke or wrote the truth of God. In 2 Timothy 3:16 Paul sets himself as an example for Timothy to follow by refusing to believe what he has been deceived into believing. Michael Graves writes that the concept of Scripture as God breathed was as important to the church fathers as it is to Christians today.
