The Importance of Maintenance in Software Engineering

Software engineering is more about it's the maintenance and the keeping things running that is more difficult than anything else, right? Adding features is cool and all, but keeping stuff alive is way harder. So many projects I've started where like just on the couch, put on a movie, I don't really want to watch and just like download some new framework or some new library or like see if I can make something cool happen and never touch again. That's still not a free lunch either.
