The Barn Owl and the Night Owl
barn owls will hunt either from a perch, or they'll also hunt on the wings so they'll glide over the fields. Few species of owls are capable of this kind of precision of localization. Another specialization is that it's able to follow the timing information in sound to very high frequencies. The experiments which were originally done by Roger Payne showed that in a complete darkness, he used a chamber where he sealed off all sources of light. They were able to find mice in the dark.
