Radium: The Most Radioactive Substance in Existence
In the early 20th century, Radium was thought to be a sort of miracle element. It was used at everything from medicines to the minute and hour hands on glow-in-the-dark watches that were being manufactured for World War I soldiers. But these radium watches came with a price. See the women working at the factories, manufacturing these watches would paint the radium onto the watch hands with little paint brushes.
