While a lot of her story got reworked or dropped, as you can tell, some key elements remain in the film. George Lucas doesn't really acknowledge it, or he kind of does, but not in a good way. He made sure that she was credited alongside Lawrence Kasdan for writing. It's one of those things where it almost feels like a fan fiction of because those beats are there, but it is much more fantastical.
