The Counterculture of Saferway
When Saferway opened, it was a small grocery store in an old nightclub. The customers were young and part of the counterculture; they didn't want to go to big supermarkets. After making money for two years, owner realized he had to expand or risk being out-competed. He hustled anybody he knew that had money until he found someone who would invest $50,000.
