Gramsci juxtaposes common sense to good sense and good sense is cultivated by testing the claims of common sense through rigorous scientific analysis. In that regard I think that when we look at events like 68 what we have to foreground is that the intellectuals in question are not simply the academics, they were activists on the ground who were doing important work. That being said there's a segment of the intelligentsia that's invested in a kind of insurgent populism that embraces spontaneous uprisings but doesn't have a coherent strategy for building working class power.
