Solomon Islands Agreement With China - What's the Point?
A draft text of the deal was leaked. It showed that it granted chinese military and police significant access to solomon islands. New zealand's prime minister, jacinde aden, described the agreement as gravely concerning. And then the australian prime minister, scott morrison, implied that large amounts of cash and other incentives may have helped to clinch the deal. All that criticism from australia and some of its neighbours didn't go down well with solomon island's prime minister manasse sogovare.
