The Origins of Sensation

I think sensations arose from the very start as a kind of text. The way we are very primitive ancestors got to know what was happening at the sense organs was by reading their own response to it. No one working on artificial consciousness is interested in phenomenal consciousness and the quality of sensations. But that's not going to happen unless we go to considerable lengths to duplicate the circuits. A machine or animal designed on the principles which I laid out in my book would be conscious, but they haven't found any good reason for this yet.
