The Story of Andy the Treaty Cruiser
Indianapolis began her life in 1930 when she was laid down on March 31st of that year. Was a treaty cruiser, which meant she was limited in displacement to 10,000 tons. To fit within that limitation, she had less armor on the ship than most cruisers and certainly battleships did. And that limitation on armor would come to haunt her later in life on July 30th, 1945.
