It seems implausible to me that any of those are really the primary source of the problem like they might be contributing factors. I and I have this sense that a lot of people like must realize that on some level but they want to cling to the idea that if we just negotiate harder with China then it's going to be all right what do you think about that? Yeah I agree it reminds me of the stuff we were talking about at the very beginning about leaving lines of retreat and parts of the map that are labeled like here there be dragons or you might stop knowing how to have narratives at all.

What does it mean to leave lines of retreat in social contexts? How can we make sense of the current state of the world? What happens when we run out of map? How does the book Elephant in the Brain apply to the above questions?
