Greenspan's Legacy
Greenspan's legacy is really interesting because it ties into this claim that you can have these clean, pure first principles based models, but to actually get anything done, you have to make a lot of compromises. I did not realize the extent to which he was at various points, Nixon and Reagan's hatchet man on economic issues. He ended up being less of an economic thinker than I had thought, although clearly a brilliant guy, but a lot more of a political operator than I realized. There is a point in having people who make a number of compromises but actually get the job done.
