John Jay: Do we need a new idea of the self to understand disease? And not necessarily, I would say. He says he's going to tell you a tale of three microbes to kind of give you the breadth of our interaction with microbes. One is lactobacillus which lives in our guts, happily, and contentedly. Another is Clostridium botulinum who releases a toxin that blocks your neurotransmitters so you go into flaccid paralysis.
