The First Key Rhetorical Moment
Xenophon's speech to himself was the first key rhetorical moment. He had to have his mind, his heart right to think upon maybe lessons that he learned from Socrates before he grew into this quick ladder up of speaking in bigger and bigger contexts. But there's another lesson here, first that speaking well in smaller circles often leads to speaking well or speaking opportunities, at least in bigger circles. And also that you should never let a crisis go to waste because this kind of opportunity to to really ramp up level up quickly in terms of the context in which you are presenting your advice. It's not that common and usually takes a crisis.
