In the seventies, rats got so hungry that even as you're taking the anaesthesia off them, they're basically trying to eat as they're coming out of anaesthesia. And in fact, if you don't allow the anaesthesia to wear off, if you allowed the animal to eat while it's still under the influence of the anaesthesia, it might choke to death. So the researchers had to learn to give the animal a couple of hours, despite its evidence arvation. Some of brobeck's animals also got fat despite not eating any more than lean animals.
