There's a book called Dictators Playbook and one of the main things is never let a good crisis go to waste. And so that kept coming through as you're describing this. Even though there wasn't a crisis really, it was made out to be a world ending crisis. That effectively gives carte blanche to policymakers,. They can do whatever they want in those circumstances. So long as people are buying into the narrative of fear and death. The first sign of something that was vaguely widespread when they worked out that coronaviruses were multiple. There are probably clusters of hundreds of them that are prevalent in communities all the time with no clinical relevance.
