Hegel's Point Is That It's Not Just a Natural Disaster
Rousseau says if we hadn't built buildings that were for three, four stories high, maybe no one would have died in the Lisbon earthquake. This is Rousseau's point. I think stoicism doesn't acknowledge enough the way in which it's our structures who make bad things happen. And like a lot of the classic strokes, like also believed in like civic engagement and family engagement as important, important values. If you're going to kind of rationally think through your responses to things, then what do you do next?
