How to Increase Friction in Usability

I think a great example is medium does this thing where they, if you have do not track enabled, they will not embed certain videos or do certain things. So it'd be nice if there were some way that as a user, I was aware of that tracking without kind of consciously asking for it to be turned off. There's certainly more friction that could be introduced to these types of things that could empower users to make decisions that are in their best interest.
