Behind the Bastards

CHAPTER

Tim Pat Kugan's Gallipoli

Tim Pat Kugan points out that in World War one, Irish soldiers are a major part of the effort at the battle of Gallipoli. Charles Trevalion issued copies of Adam Smith's books to his employees carrying out relief operations in Ireland. He told them that these should be used as guides and handling how to feed the starving. The real evil with which we have to contend is not the physical evil of the famine, but the moral evil of the selfish perverse and turbulent character of the people.
