The Longer the Keel, the Better the Boat Tracks

The west sail is going to be much easier to self steer without a wind van, down wind. It has that horizontal area under the water line, which makes it impossible to manoeuvre around the dock but will help it track. Most boats will sail themselves up wind, but particularly off the wind. The other major difference is how the boats are rigged. So we've talked about this before, lee and atam. And i'll come to another one here in a second, the west sail being one of the few.
