The Importance of Commonality in Buddhism
When Banti published his message, what is the Western Buddhist order in 2009, I spoke to various people who found it rather harsh and unforgiving. Do we realize what a gift he's given? We do frolic in the vast meadow of the Dharma, but we do it with purpose. If your practice in another territory with another teacher takes you from the movement with integrity, sincerity, go well, sadu. A lot has been said about commonality in recent years; my great fear is that the movement or some centers could just turn into friendly, umbrella groups for people with a whole range of different practices and interests.
