GABA and Glutamic Signaling in Depression
The glutamate system may be involved in the pathophysiology of depression and why that would be a reasonable target. Early in the course, we do not see major glutamatergic abnormalities in some of the key brain areas involved in relation to mood. But with the duration of illness, we see more and more. So clinical implication of that is should we try other things first for the first second episode? Or is that too simplistic?
