How to Assess Your Child's Growth Hormone Status

The general kind of screening panel that I typically order or tell the community pediatricians to order is a complete blood count just to look for anything like iron deficiency. A BMP, at least to look at kidney function, thyroid function test. And then two growth factors called IGF-1 and IGF-BP-3. These are both made in the liver in response to the growth hormone that's produced from your body in the pituitary. So these growth factors are released kind of in proportion to how much growth hormones is being released.
