How to Introduce the Fantastic Elements of Your Story

The world building is important, but this isn't the time to dump info on the reader. An opening sequence done really well in sci-fi is Leviathan Wakes. If you're writing sci-fi or fantasy, I encourage you to read at least the opening 50 pages of Leviathan Wakes and see how the world building and the character development are intermingled.
