The Role of Mutations in Skin Barriers
The UV is absorbed by what's called a chromophore. A chromophore is a component in the skin that absorbs light. People who have a lot of melanin are lucky because they're walking around with natural sunscreen. Those who have less are at increased risk of that UV light not being absorbed by melanin and doing some bad stuff in the cell.
