What Is the Energy of Bacteria?

i have begun to think of organisms as being servants of energy. And one of the things that i've been very interested by is what happens to scianof bacteria when they are nutrient limited. When a scion of bacterium is unable to make proteins because it doesn't have enough access to nitrogen or phosphorus, it must continue to use the energy it has. This has consequences for the environment, because lots of other organisms then live on this sugar. I think we may be about to discover the answer to the furny paradox, which is, where are all the other civilizations?
