The Deficit of the MEP Pension Fund

Top-up pension fund started in 1991 when there was no common system for MEPs. The fund has around 900 beneficiaries, which is mostly former MEPs. There are still 21 MEPs who are still serving and must have been MEPs from before 2009. If you paid in for the maximum 19-year period, and you retired,. say, in 2022, you would receive a chunky 6,800 euros per month. And that's just the top-up pension.
