Cello Strings Are Made Out of Horsehair

The reaction from horsehair is very different than a synthetic material. As soon as they come out with a material that feels exactly responsive in the same way, I'm happy to switch over and not use any sort of hair from an animal. So when we pull the bow across the strings, we put the horsehair down onto the string; these cello strings are made out of steel.
