New perspectives on Paul don't sit in the same category as Gnosticism or docitism for me. You need to be a historian or have a historian in order to truly understand the plain sense reading of the text because Paul was writing through second temple Judaism. So therefore you need a historian to reconstruct for you the appropriate context by which you can then interpret and get the quote new perspective.
