Introduction

So now that we know how our letters work with sharps and flats, we can begin working with half steps too. When you're counting the half steps, you're not counting letters like before, you're counts the actual spaces. So for example, if we want to know how many half steps we have in a major third, we can look to see major where we know we have no sharps or flats. Now we can identify how many half step a major third has.
