The Importance of GDP

Total global assets were collectively worth around USD 1 quadrillion in 2021. That means that the net worth of the planet after subtracting this record global debt is around USD 700 trillion. Now, economists don't often use this figure because asset values are really hard to determine accurately. But they can work out most of what they need to know from GDP figures so they focus on those.
