We compensate the gains in automated domestic efficiency not by doing less labor, but by doing more with the same amount of labor. Inasmuch as it was truly a labor saving technology, the labor it saved wasn't women's labor. Men had to do work outside the home to earn the money, but inside the home there was no work. And chopping down a tree, hand hauling it wish very strenuous work. The work becomes focused on one person rather than on another. So women cook and men provide.
