Mary's Perpetual Virginity - Is Mary Preserved?

Aquinas thinks Mary gave birth without pain, so she was preserved. But that at least implies some special status with respect to pain,. Whether that means that she was free from all pain, I don't know. It seems clear from the gospels that there are things Mary doesn't know.
