Law enforcement official: Len Bias Laws aim to make someone responsible for a death. This insistence on making someone responsible goes against the principle that supposedly grounds our entire legal system, free will. Criminal law has long recognized that a lack of free will can mean a lack of criminal responsibility. The default assumption in law is that adults are rational and free. Many people do believe this, but modern neuroscience shows it's wrong.
