Introduction

The most common cause of death in post carea corress patients is typically withdrawal of life sustaining therapy due to our pertaining that a patient probably has a poor prognosis. If you say they're going to die and you withdraw care, they do die. We don't want to be overly optimistic and give families false hope or keep people on the ventilator for far longer than they need to be if there's really no likelihood of them doing well. In other words, as josh so eloquently said, is it’s a manifest destiny.
