Isonomia, the Rule of Law, in Greek Political Thought
There is an importance that is given to the law in Greco-Roman political thought. It's not rule of law by itself, it's rule of law as a consequence of an equal distribution of power. So if you have a distribution of political power that is more even, then it's harder for any particular part of the society to totally dominate the rest. That produces an order not because it's clear who's in charge but because no one is able to be in charge. This is what people like Hayek and Shappeter with their spontaneous orders are interested in.
