Cus 50 was first made available as open course, where we started with something. We saw a non trivial number of c s 50 x, which is the x version of the class, facebook groups springing up for different demographics of students. And so this was all happening very organically and accidentally. Students were creating these communities for each other. It wasn't nearly as effective as what was happening we saw in two thousand 12, two thousand 13,. The fact that they can get pulled into a conversation by a tag on something like slack or facebook is so compelling to them.
