Is There a Reluctance to Change the Voting System?
The party at the top level, I would say, in recent years has quite hardened their position towards first-past-a-post. It was in the last two manifestos, and they've recently just changed the voting system for mayors and PPCs into first- Past The Post. Andy Burnham has been a very vocal advocate of changing to PR,. whereas Sadiq Khan has been a bit more careful about saying what he feels about it. But we have seen some mayors really advocating for the previous system on the basis that it guarantees you more support.
