The idea of the neighbor, not as simply another, same blood, but this abyss of the neighbor. The monstrosity of another human being. Why are we today so obsessed with this monstrosity? We want decaf coffee, beer without alcohol, fat-free cakes. And I think it's a reaction to this. What we are missing is precisely what Gore Vidal said: "I was too polite to ask"
