And I think this is one of the profound things about lo-fi music: understanding the lo-fi machine as a kind of body without organs. Paul O'Hearnault was an autonomous and sort of an erathical Marxist. He started to claim that social revolution could only be imagined as a sort of exodus - people taking their lives and almost literally going elsewhere.
