We tend to assume that when we remember something vividly, that it must be true. Beliefs are held in a certain confidence level, a strength. You can have all kinds of commitments that you don't even realize are affecting and biasing your decision-making process. One thing that struck me when sort of studying so many scams and cons was how many of them were perpetrated by people who had done similar things before.
