The Importance of Morality in the Law
Dr. King says the law is always going to involve some kind of appeal to what is just and it needs to have that. So you see unjust laws, according to King, although they're duly passed by the right authorities, are parasites on the law because they are taking the form of a law to do something unjust. That creates a kind of incoherence in the system that ultimately is going to destroy the whole system of like why we have laws. We have laws in order that we would be able to live well together. And how do we live well together? We have to be just to one another, meaning we have to give to others what is do them.
