The Apparatus That Exists to Establish Value

We're constantly polishing the monuments of great composers, to my revere as much as the next person. I think we need to understand that these musicians aren't self evidently great and there's a whole apparatus that continuously keeps their greatness afloat. So it's kind of like taking the fact that those platitudes exist that someone declares this music to be priceless and saying what does that actually amount to you?
